Actually, I think there is more than just “American” values to blame. The issue of gender hits much closer to home for Semenya than anything America might have to say about the issue: here’s a good article.

Has America bullied her to conform to what we believe a woman “should” look like?

“Should”? Sorry, this isn’t about “should” (long hair, skirts, soft features), and more about “does” (body fat percentage, pelvic shape, muscle mass, bone structure). Women are built differently than men. That’s what their testing. The makeover was for marketing, something pretty much all athletes have to deal with.

I also like how you managed to blame American racism and sexism for this, when it’s actually about a woman who is built like a man:

“The 18-year-old South African champ has no womb or ovaries and her testosterone levels are more than three times higher than those of a normal female, according to reports…

According to a source with knowledge of the IAAF tests, Semenya has internal testes – the male sexual organs that produce testosterone.”

Not Caster’s fault, but it is unfair to the other competitors, and the question has to be addressed.

Caster is biologically more male than female. Not his fault but the other runners have been cheated. Really shouldn’t be allowed to compete as a woman anymore.

Also I’m fairly certain it was an Italian runner and the British press that started questioning Caster’s gender. But nice trying to pin everything bad that happens on the US. (I’m Canadian even!)
